About Mark Woldin

Born and raised in the United States and has resided in the Basque region of Spain since 2002. Mark has devoted the greater part of his time in appreciation of art, theater, film, opera, dance and literature.  He also loves food and wine – visiting wineries and cider houses, sampling tapas, cooking and keeping up with the restaurant scene.
 
Through the years, Mark has spent much of his time exploring both the United States and Europe.  He has bicycled across the U.S. from the coast of Oregon to New York City.  He has climbed in the Alaska Range, the Andes, the Pyrenees, the Rockies and the Ozarks.  An experienced hiker, Mark has traversed most of the Appalachian Trail (Georgia to Maine) and the GR-11 route across the Spanish flank of the Pyrenees, as well as portions of both the High Route and the GR-10 (the French flank).  He has walked the St. James’ Way (el Camino de Santiago) in both the spring and winter.
 
He grew up in South Orange, New Jersey, and earned a B.A. in English Literature from Rutgers.  He studied the classics at the Latin and Greek Institute of New York and also studied Spanish and French at Middlebury College in Vermont.  He lived in New York City for over 20 years and worked as a magazine and book editor, tried his hand at acting and comedy.  He is currently working on a book about the making of sherry wine.   
 
Mark is fluent in Spanish and conversant in French.
